Traveling Salesman-Based Curve Reconstruction in Polynomial Time

چکیده
An instance of the curve reconstruction problem is a finite sample set V of an unknown collection of curves γ. The task is to connect the points in V in the order in which they lie on γ. Giesen [Proceedings of the 15th Annual ACM Symposium on Computational Geometry (SCG ’99), 1999, pp. 207–216] showed recently that the traveling salesman tour of V solves the reconstruction problem for single closed curves under otherwise weak assumptions on γ and V ; γ must be a single closed curve. We extend his result along several directions: • we weaken the assumptions on the sample; • we show that traveling salesman-based reconstruction also works for single open curves (with and without specified endpoints) and for collections of closed curves; • we give alternative proofs; and • we show that in the context of curve reconstruction, the traveling salesman tour can be constructed in polynomial time.

A reactive bone route algorithm for solving the traveling salesman problem
The traveling salesman problem (TSP) is a well-known optimization problem in graph theory, as well as in operations research that has nowadays received much attention because of its practical applications in industrial and service problems. In this problem, a salesman starts to move from an arbitrary place called depot and after visits all of the nodes, finally comes back to the depot. The obje...
متن کاملCurve Reconstruction in Arbitrary Dimension and the Traveling Salesman Problem
Abstract. Given a nite set of points sampled from a curve, we want to reconstruct the ordering of the points along the curve. Every ordering of the sample points can be de ned by a polygon through these points. We show that for simple, regular curves Traveling Salesman Paths give the correct polygonal reconstruction, provided the points are sampled densely enough. In this case the polygonal rec...

متن کاملAnalysis and Counterexamples Regarding Yatsenko's Polynomial-Time Algorithm for Solving the Traveling Salesman Problem
Yatsenko gives a polynomial-time algorithm for solving the traveling salesman problem. We examine the correctness of the algorithm and its construction. We also comment on Yatsenko’s evaluation of the algorithm. The University of Rochester Computer Science Department supported this work.
